Katherine Theresa (née Landrie) Confer
Born: January 3, 1941 (Saginaw, Mich.)
Died: Oct. 6, 2013 (Fenton, Mich.)
Member: Canadian Street Rodding Hall of Fame (2001)
Kathy Confer was inducted with her husband Dick into the Canadian Street Rodding Hall of Fame for more than two decades of volunteer work at shows in Ontario. A Michigan native, she regularly attended the Canadian national hotrod show, helping out with inspections in the running lanes, a labour-intensive job in which hotrods are checked for safety.
“We go to the big American shows, but we really like coming here,” she told the Toronto Star at the 2002 Canadian nationals show in Trenton, Ont. “Your shows are so laid back. Everyone just has a good time.”
She and her husband, who were married in 1959, joined the National Street Rod Association in 1980.
Her black-and-green 1937 Ford Club Coupe won awards in local and national competitions.
A collector of nativity scenes and of Santa figurines, Confer was also a seamstress who liked to design and upholster street rods.
Confer died of breast cancer on Oct. 6. A parade of colourful street rods attended her funeral.
