Matt Lahey


Matthew Mark Lahey

Born: October 12, 1977 (Ottawa, Ontario)
Died: April 4, 2014 (Ottawa, Ontario)

Matt Lahey was a third-line forward with the Peterborough (Ont.) Petes. With Lahey on the roster, the Petes were runners-up for the Memorial Cup in 1996, losing in four straight to the Granby (Que.) Prédateurs.

ImageThe 6-foot-1, 216-pound Lahey spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, also playing for the Guelph Storm and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. He had 76 goals in 228 games.

The Washington Capitals drafted the left-winger in the fifth round (No. 126 overall) of the 1996 NHL entry draft.

Lahey played a single season of professional hockey with the Columbus Chill of the East Coast Hockey League in 1998-99. He had seven goals and five assists in 25 games.

Lahey died from complications following surgery after suffering a heart attack. He was 36.
