Walter Fitzgerald played junior hockey with the Halifax Canadians in 1955-56. He went on to become a high school principal, later enjoying a lengthy political career as mayor of Halifax and as a provincial cabinet minister in the Liberal government of Gerald Regan. He skated in many charity hockey games as a politician.
