Born: September 8, 1928 (Toronto)
Died: January 29, 2015 (Mississauga, Ontario)
A hockey fanatic, Michael Masewich dedicated many hours to minor hockey in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga. He served as president of the Dixie Hockey Association and was a longtime official with the Toronto Township Hockey League. He later became the first president of the Mississauga Hockey League, serving from 1968 to 1969. He founded the Mississauga Hockey Hall of Fame.
In the 1960s, Masewich arranged to bring junior players to Maple Leaf Gardens to meet members of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who would offer advice and the occasional coaching tip. Several of those players went on to NHL careers of their own.
