Alexander Anderson Turkington

Alex Turington spent more than 40 years involved in youth soccer as an administrator and referee in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby. He was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame as a builder in 2004.
Turkington was a life member of B.C. Soccer and earlier associations governing youth soccer in the province.
An athlete in his youth who competed in track, soccer, rugby and softball, Turkington served with the Canadian navy during the Second World War, stationed in the Maritimes. After the war, he served as a firefighter in Vancouver for 38 years, rising to the rank of deputy chief. He was also active in his union, spending 10 years as secretary treasurer. He spent three years as a parks commissioner.
